#LONDONADVENTURE – The County Arms – Wandsworth

On a hazy Sunday, with the sun hiding behind the clouds, but it’s beam still warming through all of south London, there was no better place to be than a proper English pub with an indulgent menu, great beer garden and right opposite the lush green space of Wandsworth Common. The County arms is the perfect escape for south Londoners on the look out for the Clapham vibes of cool drinks and stand out food, without the string vests and neon tinged crowds.

Blasmin and her Sunday date, meandered through the shabby chic pub, adorned with chandeliers and gilded fireplaces and mock library walls but took a seat in the light and airy dining room with views onto the common and the beer garden.  Quirky modern décor touches,  industrial lighting and scrubbed walls set the scene as they supped G&Ts to revive them of their languid state whilst perusing the menu.

Starters of ham hock croquettes, perfectly crisp and morish and a smoked salmon topped roumelade were light and satisfying before the mains of an indulgent pie, which caught my dates eye despite the lighter weather, and the classic fish and chips arrived. The chips were light and chunky and the tartare sauce tart. Such an under rated condiment!

The desserts of banana sticky toffee pudding was a great twist on a well-loved pub pudding and the chocolate brownie was the perfect choice for those who are chocolate obsessed!

The County Arms were filled with long tables of families enjoying a stretched out lunch on a Sunday, plump toddlers chasing their dogs and young couples squeezing the last drabs of pleasure from the weekend before Monday rolled round. It’s the perfect escape to feel like you’ve popped into a luxury gastro pub in the golden era of country inns whilst never leaving London.
